Medical Malpractice

A medical malpractice claim arises when a patient is injured while under the care of a doctor or hospital. Medical malpractice claims can take many forms, including:

- Failure to diagnose a condition in a timely fashion
- Failure to remove surgical tools from a patient's body cavity after surgery
- Failure to monitor a patient / restrain a patient when at risk for falling or causing self-inflicted injury

In some instances, a patient may not realize for some time after the negligent act that a doctor has committed an error or was negligent. Illinois law provides a patient in such a situation with an extended time period for filing a claim once the negligence has been discovered.
