Worker's Compensation
Strom & Associates represents individuals injured in the workplace who are seeking to enforce rights granted to them by Workers' Compensation laws. Worker's compensation is a "no fault" statue or law which provides insurance to cover medical care and compensation for employees who are injured in the course of employment, and in exchange a release of the employee's right to sue his/her employer for negligence.
Most people don’t think about getting hurt at work and how it can affect their families. The realities of the
workers compensation system are often unknown. The truth is anyone, in any job, could be at risk for injury. Workplace injuries can trigger significant personal and financial hardships. Not knowing what to do immediately after an accident could jeopardize your ability to receive workers compensation benefits – even when you’re entitled.
The first 48 hours following an accident are the most important. What you do during that time can make or break your workers compensation case. Call Neal Strom immediately if you have been injured at work: (312) 609-0400. Please review our Worker's Compensation Frequenty Asked Questions >>
While laws differ between jurisdictions, provisions are made for weekly payments in place of wagers called "temporary total disability" equaling 2/3 of the employee's wage (functioning in this case as a form of disability insurance), full reimbursement or payment of medical and like expenses (functioning in thie case as a form of health insurance), and benefits payable to the dependents of workers killed during employment (functioning in this case as a form of life insurance).
General damages for pain and suffering, and punitive damages for emplyer negligence, are generally not available in worker's compensation plans. However, injured workers are compensated for their permanent partial disability resulting from the injury.
